Day 26 Thursday 16th June
Cooktown
Went to check out Quarantine Bay this morning. Nice rocks to climb and shells to find (carry them in your shirt).
Trevathan Falls was off the beaten track, we had it on several maps with no information on how long the road was or the length of the walking to the falls. Definitely 4WD only and a short "goats track" to this gem of a place.
Onto The Lion's Den Hotel for lunch. This iconic pub dates back to 1875, Gold/tin rush. We had the amazing pizzas, Barry rates them against his beloved Spinneys.
I got dropped off to the museum, while Brendan took the kids to the waterpark. Amazing building bult in 1889 as a Sisters of Mercy Convent and then boarding school before the Great War. Good mix of Captain Cook and Endeavour stories, early Cooktown history and indigenous conflicts. The original Endeavour anchor and cannon are very cool.
The men found themselves 10kg of chicken frames for crab bait 🤪 I wonder how much of that will get used before we get home? I decided I better bring a book and chair for when they were fishing and putting the pots in.
