Day 22 Sunday 12 June
Weipa
Brendan and Barry were keen to try some local beach fishing at Weipa and took the kids, so I had a lazy morning reading and went for a walk.
When they returned we decided to take a drive to Old Marpoon. We stopped at Red Beach on the way, the bauxite pebbles feel so lovely between your fingers.
Where is Blake? Up a tree of course, that kids definitely loves climbing trees.
81km from Weipa is Old Marpoon. When the mines were established in The 60's they literally burned down the indigenous' homes and relocated them to New Marpoon near Seisia. They were able to take the land back in the 70's and re-establish the community.
We didn't stay very long, it's very exposed coastline and of course the famous Cafe was closed so we couldn't buy lunch.
Kids were in the pool when we returned and Brendan and Barry went to put in a crab pot and fish the high tide. They caught some good sized salmon and barramundi!
Kids loved the playground and all the children around.
Tried to watch the renowned Weipa sunset but unfortunately the clouds were not co-operating.
The girls added some shells onto their earrings.
