Day 4 Wednesday 25th May

Sapphire to Longreach 
First meltdown today with Ruby not wanting to eat a bacon and egg wrap for breakfast. 
When Barry told her she couldn't have her turn in his car, she quickly changed her mind! 
Made good time this morning and armed with a cappuccino from the Sapphire CP office we were off at 8am. 
The Jackson's have joined our convoy now too. 
Quick stop in Jericho for toilets and coffee. Couldn't get any fresh milk at the store,  had to make do with uht. Milk truck was delayed a week, poor Jericho. 
Kids enjoyed the swallow nests and stretching their legs. 
We arrived in Longreach at lunch time, and walked across from the CP to our tour at the Qantas Founders Muesum. 
Lots of great history and interesting information about aircraft past and present. The tour guide was great,  definitely recommend.  
Unfortunately we only had 1/2hr in the museum before close time, but the kids probably wouldn't have lasted much longer anyway. 
When we got back to the Longreach Tourist Park,  the crazies decided to have the first swim of the trip. I will definitely wait till we are further north! 
We utilised the camp kitchen for dinner and made a giant mess of their bbq (whoops!).

Day 13 Friday 3rd June

The day started with a light shower and beautiful rainbow 🌈  The guys spent a hour or two this morning fixing the camper trailer. Very glad we are travelling with others and lots of helpers and ideas and spare parts! Let's hope it does the job.  Then we went to check the crab pots. One good sized mud crab to take home. We went on a drive to Mutee Head and had lunch at the beautiful beach, it was so hot and windy though. The 4WD track leading from Mutee Head to the Jardine River mouth was our first real 4WD adventure! Soft sand track with weaving through the trees took about 30 minutes to get 5km.  When we arrived the kids were so excited to jump in the shallow water. I'm not finding the crocodile watching/spotting very fun, it's making me quite anxious at times actually :( I wish I had their carefree nature still! The boys thought that the river mouth looked like a good fishin...

Day 25 Wednesday 15th June

Hann River to Cooktown  Packed up early,  fueled up,  coffee'd up and hit the last patch of Cape red dust! Kids found these on the trees before we left.  Had a random stop in the middle of nowhere when Brendan got some reception and had a phone call about the shock absorber. Opposite Lock can get a part to Cairns, but sorry they have a 3 week wait to have it fitted 🙃  Made it to Cooktown mid morning and checked into the Peninsula Caravan Park. We got a spot down near back adjoining the Botanical Gardens.  Not sure we if you know, but Cooktown is windy!  Nanny and Poppy stopped in for a catch up as they were passing through Cooktown too.  After getting rid of a bit of dust, washing the sheets and the kids played in the forest,  we went to explore Finch Bay, the Lighthouse and the Esplanade.   There is certainly some $$ around here, very nice public facilities.  ...

Day 30 Monday 20th June

Daintree We explored the Daintree by car and boat today.  The Daintree Discovery Centre immersed us in the ecosystem that is over 100 million years old.  It was a great self guided tour with easy to use audio and informative booklets.  Another thing we saw at the centre was Katy Perry and children, as pointed out by Melissa (I never would have known even though she walked right past us and spoke to little Tommy as he climbed some steps)! Then in the car park, we saw Cassowary chick's x 3! They were about knee height.  Onto have some yummy icecream and see the exotic fruit plants. Got some Crocodile spring rolls for lunch,  they were also yummy!  Spent the afternoon on the river spotting crocodile's - 4.5m males, 3m females and a tiny 1yo juvenile!
