Day 34 Friday 24th June

Image
Travelling home starts!  I drove Barry's car to Bowen and we had the most delightful hospitality from his cousin Tony and wife Julie. Their house is Bowen is magnificent. Circa 1883, fully restored and filled with treasures.  They are also mango farmers, and all around are tomato farms. We got a bag full of red ones, apparently they only use about 25% of the fruit for market. Such wastage!

Day 33 Thursday 23rd June

Day trip to Mission Beach this morning.  Stopped at Tully to check out the Golden Boot.  Interested to find a great active wear clothes store in the centre of Tully with a great range for kids too. Does anyone know where this Owlet brand is stocked on the Sunny Coast?  Murdering Point Winery was better than I remembered from last time I was up here. And good to know you can order online too. Fruit wines, coffee liqueur, cream liqueurs 😋 Afternoon walks along the beach.  And I stand corrected on the chicken frames, turns out they are all gone, they have caught 4 muddies in Kurrimine Beach so far, and the last lot in the pots tonight.

Day 32 Wednesday 22nd June

Kurrimine Beach  Woke up to a dripping wet tent after rain over night. Morning walk on the beach between showers.  The men went fishing and the kids went swimming again.  Cocktail hour again. After 3 I was "cooked" as Brendan would say 😄

Day 31 Tuesday 21st June

Wonga Beach to Kurrimine Beach We visited Mossman Gorge this morning. This is highly touristy and money making due to the fact that you can't get there privately (to a National Park),  you have to catch the shuttle bus through the Aboriginal community. It is beautiful but after everything we have seen in the last month it was a bit underwhelming.  We had wonderful company though,  and the kids enjoyed feeding the jungle perch with their cousin Tommy.  We said goodbye to M+C and drove through Cairns. Wow what a rude shock for us, back into the traffic  again!  Made it to Kurrimine Beach around 2pm and the kids we super excited to see all the kids activities here! Nanny and Poppy joined back up with us.  Brendan and Barry went to find some crab pot spots and the rest of us went for cocktail hour ($20 for 2).  Hopefully the weather is ok for the next few d...

Day 30 Monday 20th June

Image
Daintree We explored the Daintree by car and boat today.  The Daintree Discovery Centre immersed us in the ecosystem that is over 100 million years old.  It was a great self guided tour with easy to use audio and informative booklets.  Another thing we saw at the centre was Katy Perry and children, as pointed out by Melissa (I never would have known even though she walked right past us and spoke to little Tommy as he climbed some steps)! Then in the car park, we saw Cassowary chick's x 3! They were about knee height.  Onto have some yummy icecream and see the exotic fruit plants. Got some Crocodile spring rolls for lunch,  they were also yummy!  Spent the afternoon on the river spotting crocodile's - 4.5m males, 3m females and a tiny 1yo juvenile! Needless to say kids are wrecked tonight, early to bed. Barry's gone walkabout ag...

Day 29 Sunday 19th June

We went to the Low Isles on the Reef Sprinter! Advertised as the fastest way to get to the reef,  and guaranteed no sea sickness,  we were out to this magical place in 15min.  Everyone loved the fast ride! We got the glass bottom boat over to the island and got a sneak peak of what was ahead.   Took us a while to get everyone sorted with their mask and flippers and how to use them and then we were off! I'm glad we opted not to have an underwater camera as the kids needed our help.  The water was up to 6m visibility and quickly got too cold for the little ones, but they were able to see most of the reef including the bombies,  lots of reef fish species, giant clams about 150 years old and over 1m wide, turtles, sea cucumbers and many different corals.  It was also Barry's first time snorkelling. I was to slow getting a picture of him in his wet suit 😳!  The ride back had ...

Day 28 Saturday 18th June

Wonga Beach is a typical FNQ beach: windswept with lots of palm trees.   Barry caught one small muddie but it went back.   Drove to Mossman and found the local markets were on.  Lots of fruit and vege etc. The girls chose some earrings, and Blake chose a book and boardgame.   Brendan and Barry did some car washing,  and I took the kids to the pool and games room.   Went to check out Daintree Village this arvo. Found some cool art made from rubbish.
